On 12/10/09 we made a $2880.00 donation to Think Humanity to purchase 64 brand new mattresses for girls in Uganda! These will go in the 32 bunk beds that Think Humanity is building.
For the past three years the girls in the hostel have been sleeping on the damp concrete floor. Their bedding has molded and causes them to regularly get sick. In just the past few months two girls at this very small hostile have died from Malaria. Even though they had mosquito nets the lack of a bed kept them from being properly covered by them.
Thanks to you this will end. Very soon they will be able to enjoy their brand new beds and sleep in safety!
We will have some pictures and video for you of the new beds in January.
Here is a thank you note from Wereje Benson. He is the program manager for Think Humanity in Uganda.
"Dearest,
I hope that you are doing well!
This message is the only way I can reach you and express our gratitude towards what you have done to us. Most of the time I get confusion of what I see! Innocent dying, high rates of violence to our mothers, innocent dying of malaria, we young people are suffering and dying in the diaspora. Shall we be able to see again our mother land? Nothing we did but we are victims!
When I see in front of me I see many orphans!
When I see back I see women crying because they lost husbands!
When I see on sides I see girls at the hostel, lying down, sometimes on empty stomach,
I see boys at the hostel very ill telling me that they may not live for more days ahead.
All such breaks my heart! It breaks my heart!
Whenever I think in this angle I become helpless and can no longer hold tears on my checks. In such time I look miserable and feel useless.
I always come back to life,
I get more energy every day because of people like you,
I gain hope,
I grow stronger,
I get energized,
I feel that in the States there are people of God that cares for thousands of orphaned innocent girls and boys around me. I know you have love for us, you give time, you give finances! God bless you.
Thanks to all donors of weareoverlooked, your support comes to people like us and we appreciate for the hand you lend us. Your support will make us big people to solve problems here on ground.
One of the most difficult thing to give is kindness but you have given it to us.
Your kindness is the oils that takes the friction out of our life.
Your kindness is a language that refugees deeath will hear.
Your kindness is like oxygen to our souls.
Your kindness and matresses given to us will make us sleep like human being.
We shall also sleep. We have been on the floor for 3 consecative years.
I know that weareoverlooked through you and others have done great helping refugees live longer.
I thank you that you donated thousand $ for nets,
There are hundred of pregnant mothers that received nets and were spared with their kids.
We shall never forget how you made us feel.
God bless you and all your plans.
Benson, on behalf of girls and our community."
